E3 2019 Recap: Bethesda

I think that Bethesda’s E3 conference was mostly awful, but at the same time, I can’t help but feel incredibly excited for DOOM Eternal. At any rate, here are the most important things Bethesda revealed this E3 (according to me, of course).

DOOM Eternal has a release date: November 22, 2019

The moment we were all waiting for came right near the end, but I’ll save you the trouble of watching stuff only shareholders care about. DOOM Eternal looks spectacular and it’s coming out on November 22. A preorder campaign is already underway, with the Standard Edition going for sixty dollars, and a Deluxe Edition (which includes two campaign addons) retailing for ninety of your hard earned bucks.

As the DOOM Slayer, you return to find Earth has suffered a demonic invasion. Raze Hell and discover the Slayer’s origins and his enduring mission to rip and tear…until it is done.

Tango Gameworks is working on GhostWire: Tokyo, a new action-adventure IP

Tango Gameworks (of The Evil Within fame) are working on a new action-adventure game titled GhostWire: Tokyo. We got a CGI trailer but no gameplay, so there isn’t a lot to say about this yet (seems to be a running theme this E3, sadly).

After strange disappearances hit Tokyo’s population, it’s up to you to uncover the source and purge the city of a strange, new evil. Armed with your own mysterious spectral abilities, you will face down the occult, unravel conspiracy theories and experience urban legends like never before.

Don’t fear the unknown. Attack it.

Loved Dishonored? Arkane is now working on DEATHLOOP

And that’s basically all we have, aside from a really great looking CGI trailer and a nebulous description. Yeah, this Bethesda E3 was very light when it comes to showcasing actual gameplay.

DEATHLOOP” transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

Fallout 76 is getting a battle royale mode, and NPCs will finally get to West Virginia near the year’s end

The first one of those two announcements was so obvious, I think everyone saw it coming a mile away. The battle royale mode is titled Nuclear Winter and it’s now in open beta from June 10-17 (coincidentally, the base game is also free to play during that period of time).

Nukes have set the world ablaze and the battle to claim your spot as Overseer of Vault 51 has begun – will you be the last one standing or be consumed by the ring of fire? Rank up, unlock exclusive perks and build your C.A.M.P. to weather the storm in true Fallout fashion. Scavenge for weapons, supplies, and nukes to take on other players and creatures and earn unique cosmetic rewards.

The second announcement is less obvious, due to all that PR talk of “the players are the NPCs!”, but it’s nonetheless a very welcome addition to the mostly barren lands of virtual West Virginia. According to Bethesda, the Wastelanders update will arrive in Fall 2019 and with it, NPCs will start to roam the game world. A new main quest (hopefully not based around collecting holotapes of long dead Vault dwellers, doing something trivial, then repeating ad nauseam) is also part of this big content patch, and of course there will be new weapons and armor pieces to collect.

Was that all? Not really, we also got some PR talk about new tech that should help streaming platforms, new trailers for TESO, Blades and the Legends card game, and an abomination that is using the holy name of Commander Keen in vain. So yeah, I think we covered the most important announcements above.
