Steam is usually overcrowded with new titles vying for our attention, so it’s natural that some of them get lost in the flood. With that in mind, I’ve gone through last week’s new releases, looking for interesting titles that didn’t chart high enough to appear on the top 10 best sellers list.
Without further ado, here’s my selection for this week:
Hacktag
Released on June 1st, Hacktag is a 2-player cooperative stealth title with a focus on asymmetric gameplay. Players must pick either a hacker or a stealth agent, and carry out difficult infiltration missions using their characters’ skillset to complement their partners.
Hacktag costs US$ 14.99 and the developers plan to stay in Early Access for a three to six months period.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a remake of Wonder Boy 3, featuring remade graphics and music (but letting players toggle between new and old art at the touch of a button). The game was originally released on consoles back in April, so maybe most Steam users aren’t aware that it’s also out on PC now. Critic and user reviews have been incredibly positives, and I agree with them (look forward to a full review early next week)
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap costs US$ 19.99.
Cladun Returns: This Is Sengoku!
Cladun X2 was the first NIS America title on Steam, and for a while, it seemed to be destined to be the last, due to its poor sales. Luckily, the publisher has decided to support our platform of choice with a wealth of new releases, but it seems that the Cladun series never got the chance to pick up steam on PC, since This is Sengoku! isn’t lighting charts on fire either.
Set in Japan’s Sengoku Era, you wake up in the mysterious land of Arcanus Cella where the souls of the dead gather as they await reincarnation. However, some souls have unfinished business that needs to be settled before they can reincarnate. As the player, you will assist these souls by traveling to real-world locations in feudal Japan and fighting your way through dangerous dungeons filled with monsters and traps.
Key Features:
- Pixel-Perfect Customization – Design your character’s appearance and equipment down to the individual pixel with the pixel editor! Once you’re done, share the data to let other players add them to their own game!
- Magic Circle Power – With the Magic Circle system, your allies can empower and protect your character! Assign artifacts and arrange them into formations to maximize your power and abilities.
- Madcap Multiplayer – Team up with your friends in Co-op Mode to take on dungeons, or compete in Versus Mode to collect the most points! Speed-run lovers can also try to secure a spot in the online leaderboards by clearing dungeons as fast as possible!
Cladun Returns: This Is Sengoku! costs US$ 39.99 (probably part of the reason behind its failure to chart in the Steam top sellers list)
Conarium
Conarium is a first person adventure game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s work. Players control Frank Gilman, a man who’s lost his memory and must now explore an Antarctic base, trying to piece together clues in order to get it back. Along the way, the horrors of the unknown will try to stop him at all costs…
Conarium costs US$ 19.99 but the developers are running a 15% off promotion until June 13th, bringing the price down to US$ 16.99. According to most reviews, the game can be completed in five hours.
