I have a hard time remembering a World War 2 game where the US wasn’t directly represented at launch. Even World War 1 games such as Battlefield 1 featured US soldiers from the get go (in that particular case, in detriment of armies that fought the majority of the war, something I thought was a very weird choice). Still, Battlefield V did the unthinkable and launched without the United States as a playable faction, and players weren’t happy with this decision, to say the least. Developers DICE haven’t abandoned the game, however, and the US and Japan are finally getting their due with the upcoming War in the Pacific free DLC, stated for launch on October 31st.
Weirdly enough, Wake Island (a VERY popular map that dates back to Battlefield 1942) won’t be out until December, but at least we’ll get two new maps: Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm. The first of these will feature wide open beaches and close range environments well suited for a map that attempts to recreate a beach landing invasion, and the second will be a more water-based affair, where players must secure control points on a set of island, using tools such as boats, airplanes or tanks to help their advance.
- New maps: Iwo Jima, Pacific Storm, and, coming in December, Wake Island.
- New factions: The U.S. and Japan.
- New weapons including the M1 Garand and M1919A6.
- New vehicles including the M4 Sherman tank and the F4U Corsair plane.
- New stationary weapons.
- New gadgets like the Katana and Flamethrower Battle Pickups.
- New Chapter Rewards including weapons, soldier sets, weapon skins, and melee weapons.
Players who don’t yet own the game will also get a chance to sample the new content for free, as EA is holding two free trial weekends, the first starting tomorrow, October 24th, and lasting until the 28th, while the second (which will include the War in the Pacific DLC content) will start on November 1st and end on November 4th.
