Hungry for more adventures in Geralt’s not so wonderful fantasy universe? You are in luck! CD Projekt Red revealed today that both GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be available on October 23rd for PC via GOG.com. Console players will have to wait a bit more, as both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are scheduled to be released on December 4th.
The base game of GWENT will see major changes, with a complete overhaul of the board, which has been turned into a 3d battlefield, among other visual and gameplay improvements.
Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics. Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.
Throughout the adventure, players will explore new and never-before-seen parts of The Witcher world, embark on thought-provoking quests featuring rich, multidimensional characters. All while gathering resources to expand their army and engaging in epic story battles powered by the skill-based battle system known from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
Thronebreaker does not have a price at the moment, and according to GOG’s Twitter account, the PC version of the game will only be available on their storefront (which rules out a potential Steam release).
Was bummed when I heard the new Witcher spin off wasn’t another open world game. At the same time, I love Gwent, so win win.
